This is our story....of love, life, and adoption

It's coming to that time...

Saving money comes hand in hand with trying to start a family. And NO vacations comes with trying to save money. Two years ago we nixed our vacation to save for IVF. We didn't try IVF. Instead we started the adoption. Then last year we went sans vacation again because we were saving for the adoption(notice a trend?)

This year we have been getting it from both mothers that we work too much and need to take time off. And since baby isn't coming this year we decided that come hell or high water we ARE going on a vacation.

I think we've decided on the Bahamas....(yay!!!!) But neither one of us has been there and don't even know where to start looking. Which island do we go to? So I'm soliciting ideas from all my bloggy friends out there. Where do we go to make it a memorable vacation, a vacation worth not having been on a vacation in two years. A vacation to mark our last Anniversary before our baby comes home(I know, I know I said this last year!!) Oh and a vacation that won't break the bank...we are still adopting ya know.

Let the ideas flow.....

I have never been to the Bahamas but I think it's a great idea to take a vacation. Do check into vacation insurance to protect your money incase a hurricane/natural disaster cancels your vacation.

And ENJOY! You deserve it.

I hear a place called Turtle Island is really mellow. I wonder if there is a good eco toursim place down there.

I envy you and your vacation.

I have never been to the Bahamas but I have heard it is fabulous. I'm a virgin islands girl.

I've always been a VI girl too but the Bahamas always have provided a good time for everyone I know who has been.

I know how you feel, my husband and I have gone 3 years without taking any vacations at all...actually we've only had one vacation in our married lifetime and that was our honeymoon!
I can't give you any help with the travel department but have a wonderful trip!

Hey Ann-
Molly here from down in Orlando-Matt and I have been to the bahamas but stayed with friends who have a house there....but I heard that atlantis is amazing, if you like resorts. If you want more of a "authentic" experience there are places to rent, little house on the beach. It is fun but rather like the keys...just make sure that you get something on the beach or near one you can swim at....good luck and have a blast!

Ann, since you live in Florida and haven't been to Disney yet, you should go there! It is soo awesome. I know everyone is probably like-yuck, but that is my favorite destination-without kids. Also, how about a cruise? You can see different islands. You are close enough to drive to one of the ports. There are great last minute deals out there. Just a thought. Don't let the changes in wait times discourage you. I don't think we will be on the long end of the wait.

O.k., first off, the Bahamas aint got nuttin on Sacramento... and my pool is FREE! (you had BETTER fly through SF on the way to Taiwan, that's all *I* can say!)
The folks I know who've been to the B-mas didn't love it. Jamaica and Aruba got much higher marks. But, I know several friends and family members who rented houses in the Keys and swear that's the best ever.. less expensive, and in the good old US of A, with all the beachy feel.
Anywhere you go, I'll be needing pictures!! :)

Love you,

If you haven't been to Cancun...read on....
Personally, I prefer Cancun over the Bahamas and the prices are not too different with all-inclusive packages... In addition to lounging on the beautiful white band beaches, you can also visit the Mayan pyramids (Chichen Itza, Tulum), Xel-Ha National Park, Xcaret & many other things! Just my two cents.
Have fun no matter where you go!!

Ann,

You won't regret it. Because, I'm sure as so many will tell you- you'll never be able to recapture those baby-free days. And, as much as you want that little one in your arms, things will just be *different* when he/ she arrives. Enjoy it and take lots of pictures!
