This is our story....of love, life, and adoption

Well folks, we have a typo!?!!

So we have a glitch!!

My stomach has lived in my throat since 11 am when I got the call that there was a typo. A typo? Seriously a typo?

How much time does a typo cost you?

Hopefully only three weeks, extended hotel, food costs, and some fees to change some tickets!!

The problem? There was a typo on one of our documents. So it has to be refiled. Once the typo ridden document gets back to our social worker in Taiwan it typically takes three weeks until we can go to AIT. They are expecting this document back "any day now".
*there is NO problem with the adoption. The judge has already signed off on it. NO ONE is contesting the adoption. NO ONE is trying to stop the adoption. It's just a typo, we are told.

The choice:
*1)We could wait out the finalization of the adoption papers, and go when they tell us it's fine and only stay in country the typical 4 days...OR
*2)Pick up Claire on the 21st(original gotcha day), live in a hotel(with our daughter) until the rest of paperwork goes through and leave, well I don't know...when they tell us we can leave. Which will hopefully be about three weeks.

What would you do?

What were going to do!!!**We're going to Taiwan when we originally planned. We are picking up Claire when we originally planned. And we will wait it out in Taiwan.**

To say I'm scared is an understatement. But for some reason I feel it will be fine. We will get to spend HOPEFULLY only 3 weeks in Taiwan with our daughter, bonding, and learning all we can about her birthcountry.

And as soon as they tell us we can leave, we will high tail it HOME!! It's going to be an adventure folks!!

SERIOUSLY!

This is perfect for you two- with no other children in the home, you are completely free (minus jobs) to go shower love on Claire... work on bonding with her... enjoy the Taiwanese culture... and love on Claire some more. No interruptions, no distractions- just you and your DAUGHTER!

It will all be fine!

As hard as it may be living in a hotel think of all the great time with Claire to explore the place she was born. And have time with her without visitors or interruptions, just the three of you bonding.
Enjoy every moment! I hope you can post some from Taiwan, I want to see this little angel with her mommy and daddy.

Exactly what I would do!!! We had such an amazing ten days in Taiwan when we traveled to get Laney, and I was definitely not ready to come home. I think that it will be an incredible experience and you will get to fall so in love with Claire's birth country. I am sorry for the glitch, as of course we all want everything to go as smoothly as possilbe for you guys. We will be praying that things move as speedily as possible from this point on!

I think you are making the right move. And think of what you will then be able to see of her country. And all of that good bonding time will help. It is nice to not have home distractions when you first get a kiddo. We loved that time.

I agree with everyone else, With no other children at home and if you can afford it, I say GO FOR IT I would be leaving behind a 2 year old so I would probally wait it out but in your case Have a wonderful trip and enjoy this time...

I went. It was a different country (a much more iffy country) but I think we used the same agency.
I am not even going to tell you how long I ended up staying but I am sure it made a huge positive difference in the outcome and process.
Once there I could give her much better care. She is and always has been a wonderful little girl, worth any amount of expense or trouble along the way.
Good luck and take a good camera.

Hi Ann,

I would love to have 2-3 weeks in Taiwan. I think you will have a fun time checking out fun sights AND reveling in the time with your daughter away from the hustle and bustle of your normal life. There is a wonderful history museum in the city (not the National Palace Museum, which is great, too) with gorgeous gardens around it. I wish I could remember the name.

Buy a good tour book and get out and about if Claire wants to--which she probably will.

Arrrgh! Amazing how one typo can throw such a monkey wrench into your plans. On the plus side, you'll have tons of time to bond w/your sweetie on her home turf, to learn the culture, to shop (some amazing baby gear over there), and to not get timezone whiplash when you arrive.
